CFMoto’s 997 cc V4 may have a turbocharged future
Eleven Chinese patent applications detail the V.04 engine for the V4 SR-RR, including a possible forced-induction version alongside its 210 hp specification.

CFMoto is continuing development of the V4 engine destined for its V4 SR-RR, and its patent work points to more than one possible direction for the 997 cc powerplant. Among eleven Chinese patent applications covering the engine is a design for a potential turbocharged version. CFMoto has not established whether that forced-induction solution is intended for a road motorcycle or another type of vehicle, so it should not yet be treated as a confirmed SR-RR specification.
A compact, high-revving V4
Internally designated V.04, the engine uses a 90-degree V4 layout. CFMoto states that it produces at least 210 hp and has a 14,500 rpm rev limiter. Its dry weight is listed at 61.5 kg, while a counter-rotating crankshaft is intended to reduce part of the wheels’ gyroscopic forces and help the motorcycle change direction more readily.
The intake system uses variable geometry, with each intake trumpet split into two sections. An electric motor moves the upper section so the arrangement can adapt to engine speed, supporting torque at low and medium revs and power at higher revs. The valve gear uses finger followers positioned between the camshafts and the valves.
Chain-driven intake cams, geared exhaust cams
The patent designs place the timing chains on the intake camshafts, while the exhaust camshafts are driven through gears positioned at the centre of the shafts. That layout allows shorter chains and contributes to the engine’s compact construction. The possible turbocharged configuration is the most eye-catching element of the filings, but its intended application and production status remain open questions.
