Kawasaki KLE 650 appears in an Australian type-approval filing
The KLE 650 (SE) and LE650L names have surfaced in Australia, but Kawasaki has not officially announced the motorcycle.

A Kawasaki KLE 650 has appeared in a type-approval application filed in Australia. The model is listed under the trade name KLE 650 (SE), while LE650L is used as its code name. Kawasaki has not officially announced the motorcycle, so the filing points to a possible expansion of the KLE family without confirming that a production model is ready for launch.
The development follows the return of the KLE name for 2026 with the KLE500. That motorcycle is an entry-level dual-sport aimed mainly at A2 licence holders. Kawasaki has also announced a KLE500 Smartride for 2027, equipped with an automatically activated clutch. A larger KLE could provide a natural progression within the family, giving riders a more powerful option after their A2 restrictions end.
Two possible engine directions
The most obvious connection is Kawasaki’s 649 cc parallel-twin engine, used across its 650 platform. If a KLE 650 were paired with 67 hp and a more off-road-focused setup, it could become a more versatile alternative to the distinctly road-oriented Versys 650. That remains a possible direction rather than a confirmed specification for the motorcycle named in the filing.
A second route would use Kawasaki’s 652 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, offered in markets including the United States and Canada. In Australia, that engine powers the KLR650, an adventure motorcycle with a 21-inch front wheel. The filing does not identify which engine configuration is being considered. For now, the KLE 650 remains a possible addition to the range, with neither a confirmed launch schedule nor a defined technical package.
