2027 Yamaha MT-125 gets sharper styling but keeps its engine
Yamaha brings the smallest MT closer to the MT-07 and MT-09 visually, while retaining its established 125cc mechanical package.

Yamaha is updating the MT-125 for 2027 with a styling-led revision. The smallest MT now looks more closely related to the MT-07 and MT-09, but its established 125cc engine and core mechanical package remain in place. The revised motorcycle is expected during the first quarter of 2027. UK pricing has yet to be announced; the outgoing MT-125 was available there from £5,301 and has been part of the range since 2023.
A more sculpted MT design
The fuel tank has been reshaped with a more sculpted profile and is paired with a revised seat intended to improve rider comfort and movement towards the rear of the bike. The side panels are more prominent too, extending over the sides of the radiator. Their finish combines a dark textured section with a glossy base and MT branding.
The nose receives its own visual update. Two smaller LED strips now serve as position lights beneath the central LED beam, while the indicators have been repositioned below the shoulders of the fuel tank. Yamaha retains the upright handlebar layout and fits the bike with a five-inch colour TFT display, smartphone connectivity and features including turn-by-turn navigation.
The existing 125cc powertrain remains
Power continues to come from a liquid-cooled, four-valve single-cylinder engine with Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation system. It produces 14.8bhp at 10,000rpm and 8.5lb.ft of torque at 8,000rpm, figures that place it in the A1 licence category. The same engine is also used in the Yamaha R125 and XSR125. VVA broadens the engine’s usable spread, helping reduce the need for constant gear changes in urban riding.
The chassis specification is carried over as well, including the Deltabox frame, 41mm non-adjustable upside-down forks, an 810mm seat height and a 142kg wet weight. Fuel capacity remains 10 litres. Yamaha’s accessory range includes a flyscreen, handguards, radiator protector and a road-legal Akrapovič titanium exhaust system.
The 2027 MT-125 will be offered in Redline White, Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black. In practical terms, this is a visual evolution of the existing motorcycle: the main effort goes into giving Yamaha’s entry-level MT a stronger family resemblance, rather than changing its established engine and chassis specification.
