Honda has introduced a video series built around the V3R900 E-Compressor, opening with an episode titled “The Instinct to Challenge” uploaded on 10 September 2026. Rather than treating the motorcycle as a collection of figures, the film focuses on the engineers and the personal ambition behind this unusually bold prototype.

A 900 cc V3 with electronically controlled boost

The V3R900 is a naked prototype powered by a new liquid-cooled 900 cc V3 engine with a 75-degree cylinder angle. Its standout feature is the E-Compressor: an electronically controlled compressor that adjusts boost independently of engine speed. Honda presents the system as a pioneering motorcycle application and links it to strong torque at low revs.

Honda’s stated target is performance comparable with a 1,200 cc engine, although no power figure has been announced. The styling is just as distinctive, with asymmetric air ducts beside the fuel tank and a Pro-Arm rear suspension arrangement. The V3R900 remains a prototype; Honda has not announced production, weight, price or a production date.

The thinking behind the machine

The opening episode spends as much time on the people involved as on the engineering. One team member describes the ambition of joining Honda, designing a motorcycle he would personally want, and riding it continuously. The project is also framed around a willingness to fail: the team places greater concern on stagnation than on unsuccessful attempts, treating those failures as part of the route to success.

That gives the V3R900 a purpose beyond its unusual engine layout. Honda says it wants the motorcycle to deliver excitement and emotion while exploring a more radical direction for the category. Whether that direction will ever lead to a production model remains open, but the prototype clearly serves as a statement of intent as well as a technical experiment.
