BMW has revealed the 2027 M 1000 RS, a hypernaked motorcycle built around the M 1000 RR’s inline four-cylinder engine. Production is capped at 1,000 motorcycles worldwide. The engine is quoted at 218 hp (215 bhp) at 14,500 rpm, with 83 lb-ft of torque arriving at 11,000 rpm, giving the RS the headline output expected from BMW’s M range.

The motorcycle’s technical foundation comes from the M 1000 R in M Competition specification, while its M rider footrest system is sourced from the M 1000 RR. Seat height has been increased by 20 mm. BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch describes the M 1000 RS as the world’s most powerful hypernaked motorcycle and ties the RS designation to Rennsport.

Hardware and standard equipment

The equipment list includes BMW’s M titanium exhaust, Matt Carbon M winglets carrying RS lettering, additional Matt Carbon parts, a brushed-aluminium fuel tank, new graphics and an Alcantara M seat. Heated grips, traction control, an M start-up animation, Gearshift Assistant Pro and Dynamic Damping Control are fitted as standard.

At the front, 45 mm upside-down telescopic forks provide adjustable spring preload together with electronically controlled rebound and compression damping. The rear suspension uses an aluminium underslung double-sided swingarm with adjustable preload, rebound and compression damping. Braking hardware consists of a four-piston caliper and twin 320 mm discs at the front, plus a single-piston caliper working with a 220 mm rear disc.

BMW quotes a road-ready weight of 196 kg with the tank full; that tank holds 16.5 litres. UK pricing is set at £36,220. The combination of the RR engine, the M Competition technical base and the extensive carbon equipment makes the limited RS a substantially different proposition from a routine M 1000 R update.
