BMW M 1000 RS: 215 hp and a 1,000-unit production run
The 2027 limited-edition M 1000 RS combines the M 1000 R platform with the M 1000 RR engine and restores the RS badge’s Rennsport meaning.

BMW Motorrad is introducing the 2027 M 1000 RS as a limited-production hyper-naked motorcycle. The new model uses the M 1000 R as its foundation, including the M Competition package, while adding the engine from the M 1000 RR. Production is capped at 1,000 motorcycles.
A 999cc engine with market-specific output
The M 1000 RS uses a 999cc ShiftCam inline-four with the same engine tune as the M 1000 RR. BMW lists 215 hp at 14,500 rpm and 83.3 lb-ft at 11,000 rpm for European specification. In the United States, EPA noise restrictions bring the claimed output down to 205 hp.
The chassis and rider interface also receive changes beyond the engine swap. The RS adopts the M rider footrest system from the M 1000 RR, while seat height increases by 0.8 inches to 33.4 inches. BMW says the higher seat places more load over the front wheel, giving the naked motorcycle a more committed riding position.
RS takes its name back to Rennsport
The badge draws on BMW’s earlier racing motorcycles, including the R 51 RS, 255 RS Kompressor and RS54. Markus Flasch, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Motorrad, says RS refers here to Rennsport, or motorsport, rather than Reise Sport, the interpretation associated with BMW’s sport-touring models.
The limited-edition motorcycle is expected to reach U.S. showrooms in the first quarter of 2027 at a stated price of $38,395. That price and timing apply to the U.S. market. With the RR-derived engine, M hardware and a 1,000-unit production run, the M 1000 RS gives BMW’s naked M 1000 R a distinctly exclusive configuration.
