Piaggio is bringing the Typhoon back into its range, more than 30 years after the name first appeared under the Gilera brand. This is an entirely new scooter project, although its layout follows the practical, easy-to-use character associated with the Typhoon during the 1990s.

The new model is powered by an air-cooled 124cc single-cylinder engine with three valves. Its output is 7.8 kW (10.6 hp) at 7,400 rpm, with 10.4 Nm of torque at 6,200 rpm, and drive is handled by a CVT automatic transmission. The engine sits in a steel tube frame reinforced with welded sections. A pronounced duck-bill front shield gives the scooter its visual identity, while the flat footboard creates a useful platform for bags and backpacks. A hook behind the shield helps secure them. The tank holds 6 liters, with a further 1.2-liter reserve, and the seat is 797 mm high.

Suspension equipment consists of a hydraulic telescopic fork and a single hydraulic rear shock absorber with four-position preload adjustment. Both ends use 14-inch wheels fitted with 120/70-14 tubeless tires. Braking combines a 220 mm front disc and two-piston caliper with a 140 mm rear drum; CBS distributes the braking action across both wheels. The TFT instrument panel can connect to a smartphone through Piaggio MIA. Piaggio will offer the Typhoon in Monsoon Black, Boreal White, Sirocco Grey and Ocean Blue.
