Honda CB250SS: a 249cc retro scrambler with production-ready hardware
Honda’s concept combines a single-cylinder engine, upside-down forks and chassis geometry distinct from the CL250.

Honda’s CB250SS Concept has appeared in China as a small-capacity scrambler built around a strongly retro design. It remains a prototype, but its execution goes beyond a simple styling exercise: the finish, exhaust hardware and equipment suggest a motorcycle developed with production requirements in mind.
Engine and chassis
The CB250SS uses a liquid-cooled, four-stroke 249cc single-cylinder engine already found in the CB250R and Rebel 250 for the Japanese market. Its exhaust includes both a muffler and a catalytic converter, hardware that appears close to type-approval requirements. A European version could potentially use Honda’s 286cc engine, which is installed in 300-series models in other markets, but that remains an unconfirmed possibility rather than a Honda plan.
The steel frame carries upside-down forks and a rear monoshock with adjustable preload. Seventeen-inch aluminium wheels are fitted with block-pattern tyres aimed at light off-road use. Compared with the CL250, the CB250SS has a shorter wheelbase, a taller seat and greater trail, the result of a more open steering-head angle. Its suspension arrangement is different too: the CL250 uses conventional forks and twin rear shocks, while the concept adopts the upside-down-fork and monoshock layout.
Retro design, modern instruments
Equipment includes a round TFT instrument panel and full-LED lighting. Honda RoadSync may be integrated into the TFT, although that has not been confirmed. A metal grille covers the round headlamp, with a small flyscreen above it. The flat single-piece seat, side covers, rounded fuel tank and short rear mudguard complete the scrambler look. Honda has not confirmed production or availability outside China. More details are expected at EICMA 2026.
