Ducati Monster Dark gives the V2 naked a blacker, simpler edge
The new Monster Dark retains the 890cc V2 and full electronic package, adding an all-black finish and a stated £10,995 launch price.

Ducati has introduced the Monster Dark, an all-black interpretation of its V2 naked motorcycle. Its main change is visual rather than mechanical: the Dark uses a single-fabric seat, black wheels and deliberately visible components such as the front frame, exhaust end caps and air-intake snorkel. The treatment echoes the livery associated with the first Monster in 1993, while the underlying package remains unchanged from the standard Monster. A launch price of £10,995 is stated for the Dark, compared with £12,395 for the standard model.
The 890cc V2 keeps its broad delivery
The engine is Ducati’s 890cc V2 with variable intake-valve timing. Claimed output stands at 109bhp at 9,000rpm and 67lb.ft at 7,250rpm. More than 80% of peak torque is available from 4,000 to 10,000rpm, and a 47bhp restricted version is available for A2 licence holders.
An aluminium monocoque frame is bolted to the engine, with a rear subframe that combines a techno-polymer structure and steel trellis. Ducati says the design cuts 4kg compared with the previous generation. The Dark is stated to weigh 175kg and has an 815mm seat height. Its suspension uses a non-adjustable 43mm Showa fork, while Brembo supplies the brakes.
Minimalist styling, substantial electronics
The electronics suite includes cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and engine-brake control, with each system adjustable. Four riding modes are included, among them a softer Urban setting intended for commuting. A 5in TFT display is pre-wired for the Ducati Multimedia System and turn-by-turn navigation. Ducati Quick Shift, cruise control, launch control, a pillion-seat cover and a screen remain optional extras.
An early press test of the current Monster awarded it four stars and highlighted the V2’s broad torque delivery and agile handling. It also pointed out how quickly the options list can add to the cost. The Monster Dark therefore changes the family’s presentation more than its core specification: the hardware and electronic package stay familiar, while the darker finish gives the model a more stripped-back identity.
