CFMOTO 550MT and 550MT-X take different adventure routes
Both use a new 527cc twin making 54 hp, but the 550MT-X targets tougher dirt riding while the 550MT prioritises road use and touring equipment.

CFMOTO has added two new motorcycles to its MT adventure family, with the 550MT and 550MT-X sharing an engine but pursuing different riding briefs. Their new 527cc parallel-twin produces 54 hp at 8,500 rpm and 52 Nm at 6,000 rpm. CFMOTO claims that this is around 30 per cent more power than the 449cc engine used by the 450MT.
A two-way quickshifter is fitted to both motorcycles. The 550MT also receives an electronic clutch, intended to simplify everyday riding and gear changes. The key distinction is their chassis direction: the 550MT-X is configured for more demanding off-road use, while the 550MT places greater emphasis on tarmac, comfort and touring.
550MT-X: built around off-road ability
The 550MT-X pairs a 21-inch front wheel with an 18-inch rear and uses fully adjustable KYB suspension. Wheel travel is 230mm at the front and 220mm at the rear, while ground clearance measures 250mm. CFMOTO gives a dry weight of 172kg and a ready-to-ride figure of 183kg. That is 3kg less than the 450MT, despite the larger-capacity engine. Braking is handled by a single 320mm front disc, a layout intended to help keep unsprung weight down.
Its riding position follows the same brief. A narrow central section and one-piece seat are meant to make it easier to shift body position while standing on the footpegs. The electronics bring selectable power modes and an Off-Road setting, in which traction control and rear-wheel ABS can be disabled. The equipment list also includes the two-way quickshifter and a vertically oriented 6.2-inch display with MotoPlay connectivity.
550MT: the road and touring alternative
The 550MT takes a more road-biased approach, with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. Its KYB suspension is intended to balance comfort with everyday versatility. The electronic package includes three riding modes, ABS and traction control supported by an IMU, cruise control and a Rear Detection System. An 8-inch MMI 2.0 display provides Apple CarPlay connectivity.
The electronic clutch, Smart Key and electronic access functions reinforce the 550MT’s convenience-focused character. Touring equipment includes a 23-litre fuel tank and a two-piece seat, while seat height can be adjusted between 800mm and 820mm. Pricing, availability and complete UK specifications for both motorcycles have not yet been confirmed.
