BMW is preparing a new M motorcycle for 2027, expected to sit above the M 1000 R in the range. Homologation data points to the M 1000 RS as a more aggressive version of the naked M 1000 R rather than a sport-tourer. Its defining change is the adoption of the engine used by the M 1000 RR.

BMW has teased a new naked model on Instagram and scheduled a YouTube presentation for November 3. The teaser does not reveal the motorcycle’s name, but the SN99 type code links the M 1000 RS to the M 1000 R. An EICMA presentation is expected, where the bike’s final form and specification should be shown.

RR power for a naked platform

The M 1000 RS uses a 999cc inline-Four with ShiftCam, in the specification fitted to the M 1000 RR. Certified output is 215 hp at 11,000 rpm, with 83.3 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm. The M 1000 R is listed at 207 hp at 13,750 rpm with the same peak torque, giving the RS a clear advantage in power while preserving its connection to the streetfighter platform.

The certified top-speed figures also separate the RS from the superbike. Its 175.8-mph figure is close to the M 1000 R’s 174.0 mph and well below the M 1000 RR’s 195 mph. That positioning suggests a road-focused naked motorcycle with the RR’s stronger powerplant, rather than a fully faired superbike with the same aerodynamic priorities.

A longer footprint

The M 1000 RS shares the M 1000 R’s height and width. Its listed length is 82.5 in, or 0.4 in more, while the wheelbase measures 57.9 in. The M 1000 R is listed at 57.7 in and the M 1000 RR at 57.4 in, placing the RS slightly longer than both related models in this measurement.

The homologation figures give the M 1000 RS a tare weight of 597.5 lb and a curb weight of 432 lb. The M 1000 R is listed at 430 lb. BMW is expected to provide the remaining equipment and specification details with the motorcycle’s presentation. For now, the combination of the M 1000 R’s naked-platform identity and the RR engine defines the RS as a distinct performance model within the M family.
