2027 Kawasaki KLE650: an adventure bike built around touring
The new KLE650 retains Kawasaki’s 649cc parallel twin and adds an SE version with more touring equipment.

Kawasaki is opening a new chapter for the KLE family in 2027 with the middleweight KLE650. It uses the company’s existing 649cc parallel twin, but its purpose is not to become a dedicated rally machine. Kawasaki is putting long-distance comfort and everyday usefulness ahead of outright off-road performance, creating an adventure motorcycle aimed at riders who want travel ability without an extreme dirt-bike brief.
A standard model, an SE and three accessory packages
The range will include a standard KLE650 and a better-equipped KLE650 SE. The SE brings an up-and-down quickshifter, a TFT display, tubeless tyres, a USB-C power socket, an aluminium bash plate and a larger windscreen. Three further Edition configurations will use items from the optional accessory catalogue: Top Case, Rally and Adventurer Tourer. The approach gives buyers different priorities for luggage, appearance and touring equipment while retaining the same core motorcycle.
The standard version will be finished in Metallic Matte Graphensteel Gray. The SE will be available in Pearl Storm Gray and Pearl Blizzard White. Its styling draws on the existing KLE500 family, while the frowning front LED headlights recall the Z900 and the new Versys 900. Spoked 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels preserve the ability to tackle unpaved routes, although the wheel sizes do not change the model’s fundamentally travel-focused character.
A familiar engine with a different mission
The engine sits in a trellis chassis and uses a 180-degree crankshaft, rather than the 270-degree layout found in the Yamaha Ténéré 700 and Aprilia Tuareg 660. Its bore and stroke measure 83x60mm, and the package includes electronic throttle valves together with new intake and exhaust systems. Kawasaki says the aim is strong torque through the low and mid-range while preserving energetic performance at higher revs. Traction control and cruise control are also part of the equipment, with the latter reinforcing the KLE650’s long-distance brief.
The KLE650 will make its UK debut at Motorcycle Live, held at the NEC in Birmingham from November 21 to 29. Its wheel sizes give it credible rough-road potential, but Kawasaki is presenting it primarily as a rugged travel motorcycle. That places the new KLE650 away from the most aggressively dirt-oriented adventure bikes and closer to riders who value practicality, comfort and a broad touring role over extreme off-road capability.
