Bastianini wants more MotoGP 2027 shakedown time
The Tech3 KTM rider wants the Sepang shakedown opened to riders who have not yet tried the 850cc bikes.

Enea Bastianini is calling for a change to MotoGP’s 2027 preparation plan: riders who have not yet sampled the new machines should be considered for the Sepang shakedown. The proposal comes before the switch to 850cc bikes and Pirelli tyres, which will replace Michelin as the championship’s supplier.
Two 850cc-bike tests have already been held during the season, but the reshaping of the teams for 2027 prevented the entire rider line-up from taking part. The first official group test is set for Tuesday 1 December, following the Valencia Grand Prix. Bastianini’s view is that one day will leave too little time to learn the motorcycle and understand how the new tyres work.
Why Sepang matters
The Sepang shakedown lasts three days and is intended for test riders and rookies. Once the concession rankings are reset for 2027, contracted riders who are not rookies will not be eligible. That gives Moto2 and Superbike riders who have already run the new motorcycle and tyres several times a head start, while some of the current MotoGP field has not had the same opportunity.
Bastianini currently rides for Tech3 KTM and is due to join Trackhouse Aprilia in 2027. He wants the issue raised with Dorna and MotoGP so that a longer preparation programme can be considered. In his view, extra running would give riders more time to learn the bike, adapt to the Pirelli tyres and establish their development direction before the new season begins.
