ZXMoto has shown a working boxer twin of around 1,000cc at CIMA 2026, taking a substantial step beyond the engine project displayed at EICMA 2025. That earlier appearance was only a rendering. The latest presentation by company founder Zhang Xue showed a fully built engine that appears intended for a future motorcycle application.

ZXMoto has not yet released the engine’s official technical specification. Indications point to an output above 100bhp, liquid cooling and chain-driven camshafts, although those details remain unconfirmed until final technical data is published. The engine’s physical architecture, however, gives a clearer idea of the direction the company may be taking.

A layout pointing to shaft drive

The boxer uses a longitudinal layout and places its output shaft at the rear of the engine. That arrangement points towards shaft drive to the rear wheel, a configuration strongly associated with large adventure and sport-touring motorcycles. It is therefore possible to see the unit as the foundation for a ZXMoto motorcycle aimed at the territory occupied by the BMW R 1300 GS, although no specific production model has been presented.

The development pace is at least as notable as the engine’s capacity. ZXMoto was officially founded in 2024 and, by 2025, had already displayed new motorcycles at EICMA, taken part in racing and won in the WorldSSP championship. At the same time, the company was presenting new engines and technologies.

A boxer of this size does not necessarily limit ZXMoto to one adventure motorcycle. If the project moves into a further application, the same basic powerplant could serve in a sport tourer, a road bike or a large naked. The move from a 2025 computer-generated design to a working engine in 2026 suggests that ZXMoto is expanding its technical capability quickly and looking towards larger motorcycle categories.
