Yamaha will bring its YE-01 electric motocross concept to the 2026 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at Ernée, France, for an exhibition run. The appearance moves the project beyond a static technology showcase and into a genuine motocross setting, although it does not yet represent a production model or a regular race entry.

The YE-01 was first revealed at EICMA in 2025 and is being developed jointly by Yamaha and French company Electric Motion. Yamaha contributes YZ450F chassis technology and motocross racing experience, while Electric Motion supplies expertise in electric powertrains. The project is therefore being shaped around the demands of motocross from the outset, rather than presented simply as an electric motorcycle adapted for the discipline.

A possible route into MXEP

Yamaha is developing the YE-01 with potential future participation in MXEP in mind. The electric motocross racing series is expected to launch in the near future, although its timing and the bike’s eventual role have not been established. At Ernée, the company will be able to demonstrate the machine in a motocross environment and explore what electric power can bring to the sport. Yamaha says the concept is intended to retain motocross’s core character and excitement while using the advantages of electric drive.

The technical picture remains deliberately incomplete. Yamaha has not announced production plans or a full specification, so the YE-01 remains a concept rather than a confirmed showroom or race machine. Its presence at one of motocross’s major events nevertheless signals that Yamaha is taking electric competition seriously and leaves open a future racing role if MXEP gets underway. The project also supports Yamaha’s wider electrification strategy, which targets carbon neutrality across its entire supply chain by 2050.
