Honda has received two distinctions at the 2026 Red Dot Design Awards, recognizing different parts of its approach to electric motorcycles. The Honda EV OUTLIER Concept was awarded in the Design Concept category, while the film “What Is a Motorcycle? / Electric Motorcycles” received an award in Brands & Communication Design.

A concept for the motorcycle after 2030

Honda presents the EV OUTLIER Concept as a vision for the motorcycle beyond 2030, rather than as a straightforward development of an existing motorcycle. Its architecture places electric motors at both the front and rear wheels. According to Honda’s description, that layout enables a particularly low riding position while giving the concept a distinct, dynamic profile.

The stated aim is to redefine the design and riding experience that an electric two-wheeler can offer. The concept is framed through Honda’s “Precision of Intrinsic Design” philosophy, which emphasizes the essential characteristics of an electric vehicle. Clean surfaces and a notably modern aesthetic are presented as part of that design approach.

Communication as part of the electric strategy

The second Red Dot recognition concerns Honda’s film “What Is a Motorcycle? / Electric Motorcycles”. The film forms part of the company’s communication strategy for the future of electric motorcycles and carries the central message “Expected life. Unexpected discoveries.” Its subject extends beyond the presentation of new technology: it examines the new possibilities created by electrification, the place of electric motorcycles within the wider mobility ecosystem and how they could fit into everyday life.

Taken together, the two awards address both the proposed vehicle concept and the way Honda communicates its future. Honda links the distinctions to its commitment to developing electric-motorcycle technology, design and user experience, as well as to improving how the new era of electrification is explained to the public. The company’s approach therefore treats the electric motorcycle as a design, technical and communication question, while also exploring how electrification could transform the motorcycle experience.

Part of a wider 2026 design record

The latest distinctions add to Honda’s success at the 2026 Red Dot Design Awards. In April 2026, the Honda WN7, described as a new electric motorcycle, received “Red Dot: Best of the Best” in the Product Design category. That recognition is separate from the two awards described above. Honda associates the WN7 and its broader design philosophy with clean surfaces and a modern aesthetic.

The Red Dot Design Awards are presented as one of the leading international institutions in design. They recognize projects and products that stand out for quality, innovation and their design approach.
