Italian Bike Week 2026 draws 135,000 visitors to Lignano
The fifth edition mixed custom culture, off-road riding, international guests and more than 2,000 test rides across four days.

Italian Bike Week 2026 brought 135,000 visitors to Lignano Sabbiadoro from 17 to 20 September, according to the town’s tourism service. The free-entry event occupied the seaside town in Italy’s Udine province with a broad mix of custom motorcycles, off-road activities, guided rides, live music and street parades. More than 2,000 test rides were completed during the weekend, giving the fifth edition a significant riding element alongside its exhibition and entertainment programme.
The event grew from the success of the 2020 and 2021 Biker Fest International editions, which were moved towards the end of summer during the Covid pandemic. It has since developed into a major late-summer gathering and is presented as Europe’s third-largest motorcycle festival, behind Biker Fest International and Austria’s European Bike Week. Its identity is increasingly tied to riding rather than simply displaying finished custom builds, with dirt activities providing a clear point of difference from Biker Fest.
Custom motorcycles move onto the dirt
The established Custom Bike Show remained central to the event, bringing custom builders from across Europe to Lignano and underlining the gathering’s historical and cultural roots. For 2026, the programme added the ARTigliate Custom Contest, dedicated to custom motorcycles with an off-road character. Adventure, Enduro, Motocross and Scrambler machines consequently played a prominent role, reflecting the event’s focus on dust, mud and mixed-surface riding.
At the Off-Road Arena, visitors could ride free of charge on a specially prepared dirt track using off-road-oriented motorcycles. Honda added its Young Riders School for young and beginner riders, while road motorcycles were used for test routes through the surrounding area. The combination made the event more hands-on than a conventional static motorcycle show: visitors could move from the custom displays to organised riding activities within the same four-day programme.
Enduro, adventure and road routes
Enduro Days supplied the more demanding off-road component. Professional and amateur riders tackled specially designed routes with a combined length of 7 km during the two-day activity. The Sabbiadoro motorcycle club organised the event under the FMI, and the same club also managed Enduro Moto-Therapy, a riding experience intended for people with disabilities.
The Adventure Rides took a less competitive approach. The MV Adventure club from Trieste guided enduro riders into some of Friuli’s more isolated areas, turning the activity into a short exploratory journey rather than a race. On Saturday night, the group stayed at Malga Cuar in the Prealps, with views across the Tagliamento river valley. Riders who preferred asphalt could instead join the MotoTour towards the Italian Cultural Capital of 2027, following planned road routes.
Rain affected the opening warm-up day, but the programme quickly gathered pace. The organisers combined the riding schedule with competitions, displays and evening entertainment, giving the event several distinct strands rather than concentrating everything around the main custom show.
International visitors and Giampaolo Morelli
Italian Bike Week’s international reach was visible in the riders arriving from Australia, the United States, Canada, Russia and Turkey. Among them was Ugur, a 54-year-old rider from Istanbul who reached Lignano on Thursday after travelling more than 1,500 km. He said he had discovered the event online and crossed the Balkans in heavy rain, but considered the warm welcome at Lignano a worthwhile reward.
The honorary guest was Giampaolo Morelli, the actor, writer and director known in Italy for playing Ispettore Coliandro in the television series of the same name. Morelli said he owns a matte-black Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Iron and rides it daily through Rome traffic. He also described the Friuli Venezia Giulia region as an excellent place for motorcycling, while announcing that he was preparing to begin filming his next movie in Trieste, a project he is directing and starring in.
Massimo Brini, Lignano’s councillor responsible for tourism, said the event strengthened the town’s ambitions as a high-quality tourism destination. He also credited the gathering with helping local hospitality businesses extend the tourist season and attract Italian and international visitors, particularly from Austria and Germany.
Competitions, music and the night parade
Saturday afternoon included the Beard’s Race, an idea developed by Fabrizio Bottos, winner of the World Beard and Moustache Championships in 2019 and 2023. The contest brought together 35 participants from across Italy, competing with beards, moustaches and more elaborate facial-hair styles. Alongside it, the Pin Up Contest, organised by Francesca “Lady BB” Turello, used 1950s-inspired outfits, poses and choreography in a deliberately playful mix of glamour and humour.
The Luna Park area contained 130 stands, while 11 bands performed from Thursday evening onwards. Their programme covered classic rock, hard rock, metal and punk, keeping the event’s soundtrack firmly connected to motorcycle and road culture. The surrounding entertainment was not limited to two-wheelers: US Car on the Beach brought more than 200 American cars to Lignano.
The light-hearted Ciao in Ciabatte procession sent a lively group of mopeds and scooters towards the beach. It was followed on Saturday night by the Saturday Night Parade, when thousands of motorcycles gathered outside the Luna Park before setting off through the town. Spectators watched the illuminated procession from the streets and seafront, while helicopter flights offered views of the moving column from above.
Organiser Moreno Persello compared Italian Bike Week with the legendary Daytona Week in the United States. He said the event had achieved a scale that would have been difficult to imagine when the project began five years earlier, and described the comparison as the European equivalent of that American motorcycle celebration.
