2027 Kawasaki KLX300 gains ABS and new XPL, DF versions
The updated KLX300 brings standard front ABS, engine revisions and two new versions aimed at different kinds of use.

Kawasaki is expanding the 2027 KLX300 family with two new versions, the XPL and DF, alongside the standard trail model and supermoto. Announced on 14 October, the update also makes front-wheel ABS standard throughout the range. Kawasaki positions the KLX300 as an easy, approachable motorcycle for new and intermediate riders, while the broader line-up gives the same platform more distinct roles.
ABS that adapts to the version
On the versions intended for both road and dirt use, the ABS can be switched off once the ride leaves the pavement. The supermoto keeps the system permanently active. Kawasaki has also revised the cooling arrangement: the second radiator is removed, leaving a single radiator on the left side. A new digital display adds smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s application.
Engine revisions, familiar chassis package
The single-cylinder engine retains its 292-cubic-centimetre displacement but receives a new connecting rod, camshafts from the KLX300R and a cylinder with a very hard coating. Kawasaki links those changes to improved response. The frame, suspension and brakes remain unchanged, with a 43 mm front fork and suspension travel of 10 inches at the front and 9.1 inches at the rear.
XPL touring equipment, DF utility styling
The XPL takes the more travel-oriented route, adding a tall windscreen, handguards, a braced rack for securing luggage and a round LED headlight. The DF goes for a more utility-focused identity, combining an earthy grey finish with a black engine and frame, handguards and a cargo rack. Its overall approach follows the logic of the KLR650 DF, giving the KLX300 a different visual and practical emphasis without changing the core chassis package.
