Ducati is developing its motocross programme further for 2027, one year after introducing its first motocross motorcycle. The Desmo450 MX and Desmo450 MX Factory receive a group of changes aimed at performance, rider ergonomics and durability, with Ducati drawing on feedback from its first racing season. The revisions are not limited to new graphics: the final drive, rider controls, tyres and several highly loaded components have all been reconsidered, while a predictive maintenance function becomes available through a Wi-Fi module.

The 2027 range was presented by Ducati on 10 September 2026. The company describes the road-going and racing development of the motorcycles as progressing together, with the Factory version positioned as the more competition-focused expression of the project. Both versions retain the single-cylinder Desmo450 engine and the aluminium twin-spar chassis, while the Factory adds a longer list of race-oriented equipment and special finishes.

More drive at corner exit

The most direct change to the standard motorcycle’s response is the new 51-tooth rear sprocket. Ducati says the revised final-drive ratio increases the torque delivered to the rear wheel, helping the Desmo450 MX react more quickly when accelerating out of a corner. A larger 40 mm fuel cap is intended to make refuelling faster and easier, and the redesigned ends of the gearshift and rear-brake pedals are meant to improve foot movement during shifting and braking.

The tyre specification also changes for 2027. The Desmo450 MX uses Pirelli Scorpion MX32 Mid-Soft tyres, sized 80/100-21 at the front and 110/90-19 at the rear. Ducati presents this choice as a way to provide traction and performance on modern motocross tracks, while the new colour scheme gives the standard version Ducati Red bodywork with black logos instead of the previous white logos.

Durability and maintenance

Several parts have been revised with repeated impacts and heavy loads in mind. The connection tolerances for the starter-motor gear are new, and the water-pump oil seal has revised geometry together with a Teflon coating. The exhaust header is reinforced at the point where it connects to the silencer. Ducati has also renewed the chain-guide support, fork protectors and the front brackets that connect the engine to the frame. The stated objective is greater robustness, reliability and service life.

The 2027 Desmo450 MX can also be equipped with a predictive maintenance system through an optional Wi-Fi module. The system analyses motorcycle-use data and adjusts maintenance intervals to the actual riding conditions, rather than applying an identical schedule to every type of use. Ducati says this should allow maintenance planning to be more precise and better matched to how the motorcycle is operated.

Desmo450 MX: the standard specification

The core of the standard model is a 449.6 cc single-cylinder desmodromic engine. Ducati lists maximum output of 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm and maximum torque of 53.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The engine sits in an aluminium twin-spar frame designed with a limited number of welds, while the 7.2-litre fuel tank and cast-aluminium swingarm form part of the chassis package.

Suspension comes from fully adjustable Showa units. At the front is a 49 mm upside-down fork with 310 mm of travel and Kashima-coated fork tubes; the fully adjustable Showa monoshock provides 301 mm of travel. Braking uses Brembo hardware and single Galfer discs measuring 260 mm at the front and 240 mm at the rear. The wheels are Takasago Excel aluminium rims with Alpina spokes, measuring 21 x 1.60 inches at the front and 19 x 2.15 inches at the rear, with drive reaching the rear wheel through a DID chain.

The electronic package includes two power modes, two riding modes, Ducati Traction Control, Power Launch, Quick Shift and engine-brake adjustment. The riding modes can be configured through the optional X-Link App. Ducati also describes its traction-control system as a patented solution developed specifically for a motocross motorcycle, with the purpose of controlling rear-wheel spin without unnecessarily interrupting the rider’s progress.

What the Desmo450 MX Factory adds

The Desmo450 MX Factory is aimed at riders seeking a more competition-ready motorcycle. Its complete Akrapovič titanium exhaust has dedicated calibration and reduces weight by 1.7 kg, while Ducati links the system to improved power delivery and acceleration. The Factory front fork receives Kashima Extra Dark coating on its outer tubes and a TiO superfinish treatment. The rear shock has Kashima Extra Dark treatment on its body and TiO superfinish on its shaft.

The Factory also uses one-piece machined triple clamps, intended to reduce weight further. Race-focused protection and starting equipment includes a Holeshot system, a front brake-disc protector and a sump guard. The final-drive specification changes to an RK MXU gold chain with O-rings, described as part of the package’s emphasis on strength and reliability in competition use.

Unlike the standard model, the Factory has the Wi-Fi module fitted as equipment. Through the X-Link App, the rider can adjust the riding modes and set engine response, Launch Control, engine braking and Ducati Traction Control. Predictive maintenance is included with this connected system. The Factory carries over the standard motorcycle’s 2027 revisions, including the 51-tooth rear sprocket, revised pedal ends, updated tyres and renewed durability-related components.

Its visual identity is supplied by a 2027 Ducati Corse livery with a red-and-black Ducati logo. Ducati says the new schemes are intended to underline the race character of the range and make both motorcycles immediately recognisable.
