Toprak Razgatlioglu’s rookie MotoGP season is over after a right-shoulder dislocation forced him to choose surgery over the final rounds. The Pramac rider injured the shoulder during final practice at Mandalika, Indonesia, but still took part in qualifying and the Sprint before retiring early from the Grand Prix. Medical checks after his return to Europe showed that the injury was worse than initially thought. Surgery is scheduled in Milan for Monday, 26 October.

Pramac team director Gino Borsoi said Razgatlioglu had been the one pushing to continue and contest the last five rounds. The team, Yamaha and the doctors involved instead concluded that repairing the shoulder was the correct decision for the rider’s next season. Borsoi described the decision as difficult because Razgatlioglu was unhappy about ending his campaign, but said the priority had to be fixing the problem properly.

The risk of continuing was not limited to a slower recovery. Borsoi warned that the shoulder could dislocate again while Razgatlioglu was riding on track, creating a danger for the rider and for those around him. The team therefore preferred to proceed with the operation rather than leave the injury untreated. Razgatlioglu’s return date has not been settled, and his participation in the first official 850cc/Pirelli test on 1 December remains undecided. That test is scheduled shortly after the Valencia finale, with the operation expected to provide more information about his recovery.

Fernandez steps in as Miller faces home finale

Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez has been called up to replace Razgatlioglu for the remaining rounds. At Phillip Island, that leaves Jack Miller carrying Pramac’s hopes at his final home MotoGP race. Borsoi described the weekend as emotional for Miller, his family and the Australian fans, while the team will aim to give him the strongest possible send-off at a circuit he considers among the best in the world.

The weather could add another variable to Miller’s farewell. Rain is forecast for Sunday, although Borsoi noted that wet conditions can make Phillip Island especially difficult. Miller briefly moved to the top of the Friday FP1 timesheets on fresh tyres, then escaped unharmed from a high-speed crash at Turn 1. With Razgatlioglu absent and Fernandez stepping into the vacant seat, the remaining focus is now on Miller’s final home appearance and on getting Razgatlioglu ready for the next stage of his MotoGP programme.
