MotoGP has moved Thursday’s Qatar Grand Prix press conference to 20:00 local time, four hours later than its original 16:00 slot. The change at Lusail is linked to several riders being expected to arrive later than usual and is the main schedule adjustment announced ahead of the race weekend.

The race remains on the calendar despite opposition from multiple riders, expressed to varying degrees, while conflict continues in the Middle East. During the Malaysian Grand Prix, it was reported that 19 of the 22 riders had signed a letter to MotoGP Group about the Qatar event. The riders have been seeking assurances on evacuation plans, insurance cover and liability.

The grid has already been affected. Jack Miller will miss Lusail after Yamaha chose to withdraw its team from the weekend. Alex Márquez is also expected to miss the race following surgery on his injured right shoulder. Joan Mir’s participation remains uncertain because of recurring vision problems that previously kept him out for four consecutive races.

The uncertain entries

Raúl Fernández, Fermín Aldeguer and Jorge Martín are expected to travel to Qatar, at least with the intention of trying to ride. Fernández and Martín remain doubtful after both left the Sepang race before its conclusion. Pedro Acosta headed to Bali after the Malaysian event, while Marc Márquez has said he will arrive in Qatar on Thursday evening after first returning to Spain.

The four-hour postponement is expected to have little effect on the rest of the weekend schedule. It nevertheless reflects the unusual circumstances surrounding this year’s Qatar Grand Prix, with late arrivals and several unresolved participation questions shaping the build-up to the event.
