Martin lost time to Bezzecchi and Fernandez in two corners
Wheelspin at Mandalika and limited RS-GP mileage explain Jorge Martin’s gap to Aprilia’s fastest riders.

Aprilia swept the Indonesian Grand Prix, taking all four of the top positions at Mandalika. Marco Bezzecchi won, while Jorge Martin finished 6.9 seconds behind him as the third-placed RS-GP rider. The championship leader nevertheless left Indonesia with his two-point advantage over Marc Marquez intact.
Martin traced the main difference to two fast corners. Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez could carry more speed through them with less wheelspin, while Martin’s bike was losing traction on exit. He estimated that each corner cost him roughly one tenth of a second. Martin tried to recover the deficit elsewhere, where he felt stronger, but the data showed his rivals continuing to extract another step from those sections.
His adaptation was made harder by the lack of recent race mileage. Martin missed last year’s Mandalika Grand Prix through injury and had not previously ridden the RS-GP there in a race. He said he had improved substantially during the weekend, but still lacked the laps needed to use all of Aprilia’s performance. Phillip Island posed the same challenge, with Portimao expected to bring it back later in the season.
That shortage of track time also extended beyond Indonesia: Martin had only a handful of 2025 testing laps at Sepang, was injured at last year’s Qatar Grand Prix and retired early from his comeback race at the Valencia finale. Marquez had likewise missed the closing rounds of the previous season, from Phillip Island onwards, because of injuries. He did, however, have Ducati experience at every remaining circuit, gained in 2024 or, for Valencia, during a 2023 winter test. A tyre-pressure problem and a Sprint mistake had already complicated Martin’s weekend, but neither changed the two-point gap.
