Marc Marquez won the Indonesian Grand Prix Sprint at Mandalika and moved to the top of the MotoGP championship standings. The Ducati rider finished just over half a second ahead of Ai Ogura, while Jorge Martin ended the race fourth after controlling its early stages. Marquez now leads Martin by four points. The result was Marquez’s 23rd Sprint victory and his eighth of the 2026 season.

Martin’s advantage disappears

Martin started fifth and emerged from the opening-corner incident in front. Within a few laps he had built a 0.8-second lead, stretching it beyond one second with five laps still to run. He subsequently allowed Marquez through while apparently facing a warning over a possible tyre-pressure penalty. Martin attempted to respond in the closing stages, but went wide at the penultimate corner with two laps remaining and fell to fourth.

Ai Ogura brought the Trackhouse Aprilia home second, with Fabio Di Giannantonio completing the podium. Alex Marquez finished fifth, followed by Pedro Acosta, Fermin Aldeguer, Pecco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo. Acosta had received a long-lap penalty for exceeding track limits.

Contact changes the race at Turn 1

The 13-lap Sprint was shaped immediately after the start. Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marc Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez arrived together at Turn 1. Di Giannantonio attacked down the inside but ran slightly wide, forcing Marquez to lift his bike. Bezzecchi’s resulting correction left Fernandez without room, and the two riders collided and retired. Bezzecchi was consequently 59 points behind in the championship. Toprak Razgatlioglu still reached the finish in 19th after dislocating his shoulder that morning, ahead of Honda substitute Aleix Espargaro.
