Liberty Media reshapes MotoGP leadership with Derek Chang and Stefano Domenicali
Derek Chang is reportedly set to lead MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, while Formula 1 chief Stefano Domenicali joins its board.

Liberty Media is making executive changes at MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, the organization formerly known as Dorna Sports. Derek Chang, Liberty Media’s president and chief executive officer, is reportedly being appointed president of the MotoGP organization, replacing Charles Gordon Carey. Stefano Domenicali, who remains president and chief executive officer of Formula One Group, has also joined the MotoGP board of directors.
The moves deepen the management connection between MotoGP and Formula 1, both of which are controlled by Liberty Media. They also place an experienced sports and entertainment executive at the center of MotoGP’s business leadership. Chang has served as Liberty Media’s president and CEO since January 2025 and has been a member of its board since March 2021. Before joining Liberty’s leadership, he was executive chairman of EverPass Media, which is described as connected to the National Football League. He previously served as CEO of the NBA’s operations in China from 2018 through 2020.
A possible US growth connection
Domenicali’s board role gives MotoGP access to Formula 1 experience while he continues to lead Formula One Group. Geographic expansion—particularly in the United States, Liberty Media’s home market—is presented as a possible area where MotoGP could draw on Formula 1’s approach, rather than as a confirmed plan. Formula 1 added three US rounds to its 2026 calendar: Miami, Austin and Las Vegas. The evidence does not establish that MotoGP will copy that model or calendar.
The appointments follow further management changes under Liberty Media. Vince Russell was named chief financial officer in May and joined the board as an authorized representative in August; the years are not specified. Around the time of Russell’s board appointment, Carlos Ezpeleta became deputy chief executive officer, maintaining the Ezpeleta family’s senior presence. His father, Carmelo Ezpeleta, has been CEO of Dorna Sports since 1998—the organization now known as MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group.
