Jorge Martin cleared to return at Sepang
The Aprilia rider is fit for Friday’s FP1 after a right-wrist fracture, while Raul Fernandez has also been cleared to ride.

Jorge Martin has been cleared to ride in Friday’s FP1 at Sepang after passing the event’s medical examination. Aprilia said the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Medical Team found its rider fit to take part, with another assessment scheduled once the opening session is complete. Martin is therefore set to return to his RS-GP after missing the planned Australian round.
The Aprilia rider broke his right wrist in a crash during a Sprint battle with Marc Marquez at Phillip Island. The injury ruled him out of the Australian Grand Prix, which was subsequently cancelled when poor visibility made it impossible to operate the medical helicopter. Martin’s gap to Marquez consequently remains 10 points, with four rounds and 148 points still available.
Additional CT scans eliminated concern over a possible second fracture in Martin’s forearm and confirmed that the radius injury is non-displaced. He abandoned plans to return to Europe and travelled to Malaysia for the medical check required before riding at Sepang.
A demanding return for Aprilia
The circuit presents a significant challenge for Aprilia even before Martin’s condition is considered. Ducati has taken the last four Malaysian Grand Prix wins, while the leading Aprilia finished tenth in the previous edition. Sepang has also been an uncomfortable venue for Martin: during his last appearance there, he had two crashes, with the second resulting in wrist fractures during the 2025 pre-season test.
Aprilia does have a recent reason for confidence. Marco Bezzecchi posted the second-fastest lap on the final day of testing at Sepang and was the only rider from outside Ducati inside the top six.
Fernandez also returns
Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez has likewise passed the medical assessment and is fit for FP1. He had withdrawn from Phillip Island with a finger fracture sustained at Mandalika, and will be checked again after Friday’s session. Luca Marini and Joan Mir are also returning at Sepang after missing the previous action through illness. The weekend could bring another complication, with thunderstorms a risk throughout the event.
