Joan Mir is preparing to return to MotoGP at the Malaysian Grand Prix after missing four consecutive races. The Honda rider revealed that his layoff followed vision problems and extreme fatigue, which developed after the San Marino Grand Prix. He had already complained of low energy during the September race weekend before stepping away from competition.

Recovery did not follow a predictable path. Mir said the initial treatment options were not working until MotoGP medical chief Dr. Angel Charte became involved. The rider noticed an immediate improvement after the treatment carried out with Charte, while continuing his recovery work at home.

A comeback with no clear timetable

Mir began riding motorcycles again last week as he gradually increased his preparation for the Malaysian race. He explained that the process was unlike recovering from a broken bone, when the likely return period is easier to estimate. With vision problems and fatigue, the priority was allowing enough time to pass and being completely certain that he was ready to come back.

Ahead of the Grand Prix at Sepang, the former world champion said he still had questions about how he would respond, although he felt good. His return to the motorcycle will provide the practical test after the lengthy absence and mark the next stage of a recovery whose timing was difficult to predict.
