Márquez: Martín will be fast if he rides at Sepang
Jorge Martín has been cleared for Friday practice after breaking his wrist, while Marc Márquez holds a 10-point lead.

Marc Márquez heads to Sepang as the MotoGP championship leader, while Jorge Martín prepares to test an injured wrist on the Malaysian circuit. The Aprilia rider broke his wrist at Phillip Island and has been cleared to take part in Friday’s opening practice. Martín still does not know whether he can complete the entire weekend, noting that an injury of this type normally takes four to five weeks to heal.
Márquez expects pace from Martín
Márquez is not treating Martín’s return as a slow or uneventful comeback. His view is straightforward: if Martín is on track, he will be fast. Márquez also explained that medical clearance means riding has been judged safe under the relevant protocol. It does not answer the more demanding question of whether Martín’s wrist can withstand every session and the race.
The two title contenders had already fought hard at Phillip Island. Their pace was closely matched, but a mistake by Martín changed the outcome and handed Márquez both the victory and the championship advantage. Márquez’s Sprint win put him 10 points ahead. Sunday’s race was cancelled after poor visibility prevented the medical helicopter from operating, leaving the same gap as the riders head to Sepang. Rain could again influence the Malaysian weekend.
The same approach, with more at stake
Márquez says starting his first weekend of the season as championship leader has not altered his approach. He intends to give 100% in every session and considers the season to have reached the stage where risks are necessary, as they were in Australia. At Sepang, he will also try to establish whether he can fight both factory Aprilia riders. The 10-point margin therefore comes with a major variable: how much punishment Martín’s wrist can take once he is back on the motorcycle.
