Jack Miller’s Phillip Island farewell ends without a race
The cancelled Australian Grand Prix denied Miller his final home MotoGP appearance before his 2027 move to Yamaha in WorldSBK.

Jack Miller’s final home MotoGP weekend ended before the race could begin. Heavy rain and poor visibility at Phillip Island meant the medical helicopter could not operate safely, forcing the Australian Grand Prix to be cancelled. The decision closed Miller’s time as a MotoGP rider in front of his home crowd without giving him the farewell race he had expected.
The weekend had started with genuine promise. Miller qualified fifth on the grid and collected his first Sprint points of the season on Saturday. His bike was also due to carry a special livery paying tribute to Australian fans, but the cancellation meant those colours never appeared in the race for which they had been prepared.
In a message after the cancellation, Miller described the outcome as a particularly painful end to his home MotoGP appearance. He thanked the fans who made the journey and stayed through traffic, rain and poor weather to support him. Miller also reflected on the privilege of racing in front of Australian supporters throughout the last decade of his MotoGP career.
The timing adds another layer to the farewell: the Australian Grand Prix will leave Phillip Island from next season and move to Adelaide. Miller will still return to the circuit for the opening round of the 2027 WorldSBK season, by then riding for Yamaha. That event will be WorldSBK’s final visit to Phillip Island before the series moves to The Bend in 2028.
