Tarns Forged Wheels is moving into motorcycles with forged wheels made from 6061-T6 aluminium. The Chinese company brings 15 years of aluminium-processing experience to the project, following work with luxury car manufacturers and racing teams. Its current focus is the two-wheeler sector, where forged construction is being offered as an alternative to conventional cast wheels.

The manufacturing process combines a 10,000-tonne press with CNC machining. Tarns presents the forged wheels as 30 per cent stronger than traditional cast wheels, while claiming a weight reduction of more than one third. Those figures are central to the company’s positioning of the product, without extending the claim to a wider assessment of motorcycle performance.

A dedicated ZXMoto 820RR programme

The ZXMoto 820RR is one of Tarns’ main motorcycle projects. Tarns is the model’s exclusive rim supplier, and the 820RR is linked with victories in the World Supersport Championship. The programme required six dedicated dies. Tarns is being presented at EICMA in Hall 24, Stand A52, giving visitors a location to see the company’s forged-wheel operation and its motorcycle focus.
