Bautista needs results to keep his 2027 options open
His Barni Ducati future is unsettled, while the two-time champion remains focused on continuing as a WorldSBK racer.

Alvaro Bautista is trying to change the direction of his WorldSBK campaign, knowing that his 2026 form will shape the opportunities available to him for next season. The 41-year-old Spaniard joined Barni Ducati this year after Nicolo Bulega had decisively beaten him in their championship battle across 2024 and 2025.
Crash.net reports that Bautista’s best dry-weather result so far is fourth place. His only podium came in Race 2 at Phillip Island, in wet conditions. The publication considers his place at Barni Ducati for 2027 unlikely, although no official announcement has been made. Xavi Vierge is among the riders linked with the seat, while Jack Miller is expected to replace Vierge at Yamaha.
Performance is Bautista’s leverage
In comments to WorldSBK.com before the Italian Round, Bautista said he currently has no clear offer on the table. His route to creating more possibilities is to recover the feeling and feedback from the motorcycle, allowing him to push hard and fight near the front again. For now, he is choosing to concentrate on the present and rebuild his competitiveness rather than speculate about the next contract.
Bautista also made clear that he is not currently preparing to leave racing. He said he feels well physically and mentally, and that his objective remains to be a rider rather than move straight into a testing role. His record includes two WorldSBK titles and the third-highest win total in championship history. That pedigree remains significant, but his current form leaves his next move unresolved.
