Honda is developing wireless charging built into the road
Honda and its partners are planning a public-road demonstration from 1 April 2027.

Honda is working with Honda R&D Co., Ltd, Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec Corporation on a wireless charging system that could supply electric vehicles with power while they are moving. The partnership has been under development since 2025 and uses equipment built into the road surface.
The companies are planning the next stage for the start of the next Japanese fiscal year: a demonstration on public roads from 1 April 2027. A test roadway has already been used to assess the consistency of the power supply and to check whether the equipment beneath the surface and the pavement structure can withstand heavy goods vehicles passing over them.
Further work will examine different power levels and how useful the system is for vehicles travelling at high speed. Taisei Rotec is responsible for integrating the infrastructure into the road, Taisei for supplying direct current, and Honda for the high-power-density receiver that accepts the incoming energy.
Honda’s intended range extends from passenger cars to larger commercial trucks and vans. The initial focus is expected to be logistics and transport, where long operating range and shorter recharging downtime matter most. For electric motorcycles, charging while travelling remains a future possibility rather than an announced application. If the infrastructure could be deployed widely, however, it might reduce the need for frequent charging stops on longer journeys.
