Peter Hickman is joining the GreyhoundLSR project, which is targeting more than 400 mph on a motorcycle. Described as the fastest rider ever to lap the Isle of Man TT course, Hickman has been involved in both the machine’s design and construction. That work includes solving how to place the rider inside an unusually compact, streamlined motorcycle.

The rider’s packaging is central to the design. Hickman is six feet two inches tall, so the team used three-dimensional scans of his body to shape the bike’s internal ergonomics. Footage of his first fit inside the machine shows a position that requires substantial folding and adjustment as he tries to settle into the narrow cockpit.

The attempt is planned for Hakskeen Pan in South Africa, a location offering roughly 12 miles of flat, compacted clay for the run. Its relatively low altitude produces denser air than some other land-speed-record venues, helping the bike’s two turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa engines make more power.

GreyhoundLSR has to exceed the outright motorcycle land-speed record of 376.363 mph. The team is also aiming to become the first to pass 400 mph on two wheels and to return the record to Great Britain.
