World championship SuperMoto will gain a new class for younger competitors in 2027. FIM and XIEM have announced the FIM S2 SuperMoto World Championship, which will share the event programme with the top-level FIM S1GP category. S2 is set to replace the FIM Europe SuperMoto European Championship at world championship level.

Riders must be under 23 to enter the class, positioning S2 as a development stage before a move into S1GP. The permitted motorcycles will be either two-strokes from 100cc to 125cc or four-strokes from 175cc to 250cc. S1GP, by comparison, uses four-stroke machines of up to 450cc. That gives younger competitors a separate route into international SuperMoto competition without putting them immediately into the machinery used by the premier category.

A six-round 2027 programme

The S2 field will be present at all six rounds of the 2027 championship. The opening meeting is scheduled for 11 April at Albaida in Spain, followed by events in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The season-ending round will take place at Busca in Italy on 17 October. The FIM SuperMoto of Nations is scheduled separately for Carole in France on 3 October.

FIM will publish the complete sporting regulations and entry conditions later, leaving the qualification process and the final race format to be set out in a future announcement. FIM President Jorge Viegas welcomed the addition of S2, linking the class with the development of S1GP and praising XIEM’s work to build SuperMoto at international level.
