Camden McLellan won the MX2 class at the MXGP of the Netherlands in Arnhem with a 1-2 result. The Triumph Factory Racing rider won the opening moto and finished second in the next, scoring 47 points for the overall victory. It is his third Grand Prix win of the season and his fifth individual moto win. The result extends a run of four consecutive overall podiums, including a Grand Prix victory in Belgium.

McLellan had already put himself in a strong position for the Grand Prix by finishing second in the qualifying race. He used a good start to run second through most of the opening moto. When the leader crashed in the closing stages, McLellan moved into first and held the position to the chequered flag. His second start was less effective and he completed the opening lap in sixth. He then worked his way forward to finish second. Passing opportunities were limited on the circuit, making the recovery dependent on a sustained pace and a strong charge throughout the race.

Farres remains in control

Guillem Farres delivered one of the most consistent weekends in the MX2 field. The Triumph rider finished third in the qualifying race and repeated that position in both Grand Prix motos. His 3-3 result secured third overall with 40 points and strengthened his position at the top of the championship.

Farres now leads the standings with 749 points, while Sacha Coenen is second on 724. The gap is 25 points with three rounds remaining. McLellan is third on 712, just 12 points behind Coenen. Liam Everts won the second moto on a Husqvarna and finished second overall with 43 points. Coenen followed with 40 points, while Karlis Alberts Reisulis and Simon Längenfelder each scored 29 points in the next overall positions.

A demanding weekend for Triumph

In the MXGP class, Ben Watson delivered his best moto result of the season for Dirt Store Triumph by finishing sixth in race one. He ended the Grand Prix 14th overall.

Vincent Bereni, Triumph Factory Racing’s team manager, described the 16th round in the Netherlands as demanding because the circuit had a markedly different character from the previous events and made setup more difficult. Bereni said the conditions were so tough that the leaders were lapping riders as far back as eighth place. Despite that challenge, he said the team’s strategy worked and the squad will now prepare for the final part of the season.

The MXGP of Türkiye on September 5-6 is next, followed by rounds in China and Australia.
