Bobby Fong has won the 2026 MotoAmerica Superbike championship, completing a major turnaround against Sean Dylan Kelly. Riding for Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing on a Yamaha YZF-R1, Fong erased a 26-point deficit and finished the season with 316 points, while Kelly ended on 305.

The championship finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park was reshaped by severe weather. Organizers canceled qualifying and used Friday’s timed-practice results to set the grid. Race 2 was moved from Sunday to Saturday, with Race 3 left for Sunday. Fong started second, while Kelly lined up tenth on the OrangeCat Racing BMW M 1000 RR.

Fong won Race 1 by 3.287 seconds over Cameron Beaubier and the Warhorse HSBK Ducati. The race ran in wet conditions and was interrupted by a red flag, while Kelly finished fourth. Race 2 became a five-rider contest, but Fong made the move that mattered with one lap remaining and held off JD Beach and Mathew Scholtz. The top three were all Yamaha riders, and Kelly again took fourth. Fong therefore carried a two-point advantage into the final day.

A wet track decides the championship

Race 3 eventually got underway after lengthy delays, with the track still wet and the race scheduled for 15 laps. Kelly tried to stay in touch with the leaders but crashed on lap four. Fong did not need to chase the win: he brought his Yamaha home in fourth, a result that secured the championship.

Mathew Scholtz won the race for his fifth victory of the season on the Strack Racing Yamaha. Cameron Petersen was second on the Wrench Motorcycles Ducati Panigale V4 R, with JD Beach third. Yamaha also received the Manufacturer of the Year award, while Attack Performance reached five Superbike championships, adding 2026 to its titles from 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

For Fong, the championship reverses the disappointment of last year, when two crashes in the finale derailed his title challenge. Kelly finished runner-up, but described OrangeCat Racing’s first season as an official BMW Motorrad Motorsport team in MotoAmerica Superbike as a positive one. Kelly also said he wants to keep developing with the BMW and take another step forward in 2027.
