Ducati’s Bologna design exhibition remains open until 30 November
“Design: L’icona prende forma” follows the creation of a Ducati from its first idea and sketches to the finished motorcycle.

Ducati’s centenary celebrations in Bologna continue at Galleria Cavour 1959, where the exhibition “Design: L’icona prende forma” will remain open until 30 November. The exhibition focuses on the creative route behind a Ducati, tracing the work from the initial idea and first sketches through the development of its forms and the definition of the finished motorcycle.
From the first sketch to the final form
The exhibition puts the design process at the centre rather than presenting only the completed machine. Visitors can follow how an early concept develops into a defined motorcycle, with the stages leading to the final shape becoming part of the display’s story. That makes the exhibition relevant not only as a celebration of Ducati’s models, but also as a look at the creative work that shapes the company’s motorcycles.
The Galleria Cavour 1959 display forms part of “Ducati 100 – Un secolo in mostra per Bologna”, a city-wide programme created for Ducati’s centenary. It was one of five locations involved in the programme from 4 September to 5 October. The other venues were Salaborsa, Palazzo Pepoli, Palazzo Boncompagni and Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. Taken together, the locations explored different aspects of Ducati’s identity, including its factory, historical memory, design, art and passion for competition.

Bologna has a central place in the anniversary programme: Ducati’s history began in the city in 1926, before developing into an expression of Italian excellence around the world. The centenary celebrations also reached Borgo Panigale on 4 October, the feast day of San Petronio, when Ducati opened its headquarters to the public. Hundreds of enthusiasts visited the Museo Ducati and the factory, marking the occasion at the place where the company’s story began and reinforcing the connection between the motorcycle manufacturer and Bologna.
