Triumph is taking the Bonneville name into the 400 cc class for the first time with the T40, a new 2027 model. The motorcycle combines a 398 cc single-cylinder engine with A2-licence compatibility and will be offered in two versions: the T40 and T40 Black.

The classic option in Triumph’s 400 cc range

The retro styling surrounds a new version of the 400 cc engine from Triumph’s TR series. Its design looks back to the original Bonneville, a name Triumph has used since 1959, while the company is placing particular emphasis on a comfortable riding position. That gives the T40 a more traditional role alongside the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X.

The model is aimed at A2 riders who want Bonneville styling without moving into a larger-capacity motorcycle. That makes it relevant both as a first motorcycle and for everyday commuting. The T40 is expected to reach markets in late spring 2027, while pricing is expected to be announced in early 2027.

Three more models on Triumph’s 2027 programme

The T40 starts a four-model cycle expected during the year. The Tiger 1200 follows on 27 October with new styling, an updated 1200 cc three-cylinder engine, more rider technology and the most advanced suspension Triumph has fitted to one of its motorcycles. The Street Triple 798 is scheduled for 17 November, using a new 798 cc engine developed for the 2027 Moto2 championship and placing greater emphasis on performance. The programme concludes with the Tiger 900 on 15 December, bringing an expected upgrade to a more powerful and refined engine, an upgraded chassis and new connectivity. Triumph will present the Tiger 1200 and Street Triple 798 at EICMA in Milan and Motorcycle Live in Britain.
