Kawasaki is taking the Versys in a noticeably sportier direction with the new 2027 Versys 900. It remains a multi-purpose motorcycle, but the latest version pairs the family’s practical brief with sharper styling and a four-cylinder engine from Kawasaki’s Z Supernaked range. Kawasaki positions it as the sportiest Versys it has built.

The visual identity moves away from earlier Versys models, most clearly around the fairing and headlights, where the new motorcycle draws more heavily on the KLE 500. Kawasaki calls the new design approach Aero Edge. Its aim is to give the machine a stronger sporting presence while retaining the visual lightness and touring orientation expected from a Versys.

Inline-four power and a new chassis

The engine is a 948 cc inline-four sourced from Kawasaki’s Z Supernaked models. It produces 122 horsepower, or 89.6 kW, at 9,500 rpm, with maximum torque of 97.3 Nm, or 9.92 kgm, at 8,000 rpm. Kawasaki highlights the motor’s response in the lower and middle parts of the rev range, together with smooth acceleration as it builds speed toward the upper end of its operating range. The result is a powertrain intended to cover everyday riding, mountain roads and long-distance travel.

A completely new trellis frame underpins the Versys 900. Its development focused on balancing rigidity with feedback from the front end, while the subframe is designed to carry a passenger and a combination of side cases and a top case. Weight distribution approaches a 50:50 front-to-rear split. Long-travel suspension is paired with 17-inch wheels and Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres, keeping the familiar Versys formula while reinforcing its road-focused sporting character.

Assistance technology and touring practicality

The riding position is upright, with a windscreen offering seven adjustment positions and a seat adjustable from 825 mm to 845 mm. The fuel-tank shape is intended to make ground contact easier while maintaining steady support for the rider’s knees. A 5-inch colour TFT display brings turn-by-turn navigation to the cockpit. It offers two layouts: one that places greater emphasis on the engine’s dynamic character, and another that gives priority to navigation and vehicle information.

The Versys 900 is the first member of the family to receive Kawasaki’s ARAS package, or Advanced Rider Assistance Systems. It combines Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Detection. Emergency Stop Signal is also fitted and is designed to help reduce the risk of a rear-end collision during heavy braking. Smartphone connectivity through the Rideology The App Motorcycle application adds functions intended for both everyday use and touring.

The new luggage system is integrated into the motorcycle’s bodywork and consists of a 47-litre top case with two 32-litre panniers. The range will also include Tourer and Grand Tourer editions equipped with genuine Kawasaki accessories, a 70 kW version and the Versys 900 SE. The SE adds LED fog lights, hand guards, heated grips, a radiator guard, frame protectors, a lower engine cover and a centre stand. Standard technology also includes KCMF, KTRC, upgraded ABS, Power Modes, Integrated Riding Modes and KQS. The listed colour options are Metallic Spark Black, Pearl Robotic White, Plasma Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black and Firecracker Red/Metallic Carbon Gray.
