CFMoto 550MT: a 53-hp crossover is expected for 2027
The new CFMoto crossover is expected to use a 526cc parallel twin, upgraded electronics and a richer equipment package than the 450MT.

CFMoto is expected to add the 550MT to its middleweight crossover range for 2027. Positioned above the 450MT, the new model is expected to retain the accessible character of its smaller sibling while bringing more engine capacity, stronger performance and a broader electronics package. An unveiling at EICMA in Milan in early November appears likely, but the timing should not yet be treated as confirmed.
The central change is a parallel-twin engine with an expected displacement of 526cc and projected output of 53 hp. It follows the same basic engine concept as the 450MT and is also linked to CFMoto’s CL cruiser model. The increase in capacity is expected to come through a larger piston diameter, while more than 80% of the engine’s key components are said to have been redesigned. The headline power figure is not the only relevant change: additional torque would be particularly useful for a crossover intended to handle fully loaded touring as well as off-road riding.
More equipment, revised aerodynamics
The front fairing is expected to receive design changes aimed at improving airflow and rider protection, giving the 550MT a distinct visual identity as well. Radially mounted front brake calipers are also expected, pointing to a more substantial front-end specification than the 450MT. The final assessment will depend on the complete braking system and the frame details, rather than on the caliper mounting alone.
The projected electronics package includes ride-by-wire throttle control and cruise control, features that could make long motorway sections less tiring. A curved TFT instrument panel is also considered possible, with integrated navigation and over-the-air software updates among the functions associated with that solution. The model’s final specification will also be judged by its suspension components, fuel-tank capacity and weight, all of which will influence how effectively it combines touring ability with off-road use.
A larger CFMoto crossover rather than a replacement
At 53 hp, the 550MT would sit above the 48-hp limit cited for A2-category motorcycles if offered only in full-power form. That creates a clear reason for CFMoto to keep the 450MT in the range: the two models could serve different groups of riders instead of competing for exactly the same customer. The 450MT would continue to address the A2-compatible part of the market, while the 550MT would offer greater performance and a more complete touring-oriented specification.
Voge provides a comparable range strategy with the A2-compatible 525DSX alongside the more powerful 625DSX. The larger model has recorded significantly higher sales than its smaller sibling, showing why a manufacturer may choose to expand a crossover family rather than remove an established model. For CFMoto, the outcome will depend on pricing, type approval and the final market positioning of the 550MT. Those decisions will determine whether the new motorcycle can preserve the value-focused appeal associated with the existing range while moving into a stronger and better-equipped segment.
