Red Bull KTM Tech3 has announced that Senna Agius will make his MotoGP debut in 2027, with Luca Marini as his teammate. The Australian has already sampled premier-class machinery in the post-race Pirelli test on the Monday after the Austrian Grand Prix. Speaking to MotoGP.com, Agius said the timing of the move was central to the negotiations. His view is that 2027 gives a newcomer a chance to enter MotoGP while the category is being reshaped for everyone, rather than joining an established technical cycle.

Agius will be one of four rookies on the 2027 grid, alongside Nicolo Bulega, Dani Holgado and David Alonso. The season will bring a substantial technical reset: Pirelli will replace Michelin as the championship’s sole tyre supplier, engine capacity will drop from 1,000cc to 850cc, and ride-height devices will be banned. That does not remove the experience advantage held by established MotoGP riders, but it changes the reference point against which the newcomers will learn the class.

The tyre switch is particularly relevant. Moto2 has used Pirelli tyres since 2024, while Bulega has comparable experience from WorldSBK. Agius accepts that the established riders remain the best in the world and that nobody starts from zero in terms of understanding racing at this level. His argument is narrower: with a new motorcycle and new tyres, rookies can learn the new package at the same time as their more experienced rivals, instead of waiting another year or two before making the move.

That opportunity convinced Agius that 2027 was the moment to accept Tech3 KTM’s offer. He also described the changes as exciting for MotoGP and expressed hope that they will improve the racing. His arrival will therefore coincide not just with a new championship season, but with a different technical starting point for the entire premier class.
