Senna Agius will ride a MotoGP motorcycle for the first time in Monday’s Pirelli test at the Red Bull Ring. KTM confirmed his participation to Crash.net, with the closed-door session marking an important step towards his 2027 move to Tech3. Agius is already confirmed to race alongside Luca Marini next season.

The Red Bull Ring outing will be only the second 850cc/Pirelli session open to MotoGP race riders, following the first at Brno in June. The complete entry list has not been published. Izan Guevara was expected to join the test, which would give him his first run on an 850cc motorcycle fitted with Pirelli tyres. Guevara has already made his MotoGP debut in a private Yamaha test at Valencia last year.

The presence of the other 2027 rookies, David Alonso and Dani Holgado, remained uncertain. Nicolo Bulega will not take part, as his focus is on the WorldSBK title fight at Cremona after a heavy crash at Mugello. All five of next year’s rookies already have Pirelli experience from Moto2 or WorldSBK, giving them some familiarity with the tyre supplier before entering MotoGP.

The Moto2 backdrop

Agius had dropped to fifth in the Moto2 standings after going scoreless in the previous two races. He trails Intact GP team-mate and championship leader Manuel Gonzalez by 96.5 points. Guevara sits second, 35.5 points behind Gonzalez after winning at the Red Bull Ring, while Alonso and Holgado occupy fourth and sixth respectively.

The next Pirelli session open to MotoGP race riders will be the official post-season test at Valencia on 1 December. It will be the first Pirelli test to use official timing. Agius is set to be the only Australian rider on next year’s MotoGP grid, with Jack Miller moving to WorldSBK.
