Toprak Razgatlioglu described the Austrian Grand Prix as the second-worst race of his life after Yamaha suffered a severe loss of traction at the Red Bull Ring. The Pramac MotoGP rider finished second-last, 46.7 seconds from the lead and 12 seconds behind Alex Rins.

According to Razgatlioglu, the problem was already obvious within the first five laps. Even with a new tyre, he felt mostly wheelspin. The final six laps were worse: the rear tyre kept breaking traction as he picked up the bike at the exit of the first corner, through other corner exits and on the straights. His explanation was straightforward: without grip, the motorcycle could not accelerate effectively.

Yamaha’s race-day collapse

Qualifying had offered Yamaha a more positive starting point. Fabio Quartararo took ninth, while the manufacturer’s other riders started from the back of the grid. The 28-lap race produced a very different outcome, with Yamaha finishing outside the points. Quartararo was its leading rider in 17th, while Jack Miller came home almost 70 seconds behind the winner.

Razgatlioglu said he considered coming into the pits because he could not see how he would reach the finish. He carried on out of respect for Yamaha, despite finding little enjoyment in the ride. He compared the situation with a similar experience in Thailand, adding that the same tyre had been used in both cases. His view was that all of Yamaha’s motorcycles were effectively suffering from the same issue at the Red Bull Ring.
