Qatar MotoGP: Lusail preparations advance as uncertainty remains
The race is set for 6–8 November, but regional tensions and MotoGP’s lack of a contingency plan keep the event under pressure.

Qatar’s MotoGP Grand Prix remains scheduled for 6–8 November, while Lusail International Circuit says preparations for both its MotoGP and Formula 1 events are nearing completion. MotoGP was originally due to run in April, but the race was moved because of the war in Iran.
Abdulaziz Ali Al-Muhannadi, CEO of Lusail International Circuit, said the venue is preparing to welcome the international public back in November. The circuit’s teams are working through the remaining elements of both events, with the experience of visitors continuing to be a central part of the planning.
Qatar’s Formula 1 race is scheduled for 27–29 November, the penultimate round of the calendar and part of a back-to-back with Abu Dhabi. The programme is being prepared against a tense regional backdrop. Governments are updating travel advice, while the conflict has escalated with Houthi attacks on civilian targets in neighbouring Saudi Arabia.
MotoGP has no replacement plan
Teams have been told that they will race in Qatar under the current guidance from organisers and the government. At the same time, riders are reportedly divided over travelling to the region as the possibility of further escalation remains a concern.
Formula 1 is preparing a race at Imola for the first weekend of December if its Middle Eastern events have to be cancelled, with Abu Dhabi to be replaced. MotoGP has no equivalent contingency arrangement if Qatar is removed from the calendar. The timing adds importance to the decision: Marc Márquez and Jorge Martín are separated by only two points heading into the Australian Grand Prix.
