Alex Marquez will lead the field away at the Sepang Grand Prix after taking pole position, with Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta completing the front row. The Gresini Ducati rider was 0.070 seconds quicker than his brother in qualifying. It is a strong response after Alex crashed from the lead of Saturday’s Sprint, while he arrives at the circuit as last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix winner.

Acosta won the Sprint in wet conditions, with Marc Marquez taking second. Ai Ogura spent most of the race at the front but was eventually beaten to third by fellow Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi, leaving Ogura fourth. The two Aprilia riders occupy the first two places on row two, alongside Fabio Di Giannantonio. Enea Bastianini, Johann Zarco and Franco Morbidelli form the third row.

Zarco and Francesco Bagnaia reached Qualifying 2 through Qualifying 1. Bagnaia, who had taken pole at Sepang the previous year, will start 10th, two places behind Zarco. He ran wide at Turn 1 during Qualifying 2 and broke his bike’s screen. HRC riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini return after illness, lining up 11th and 13th respectively.

Jorge Martin, Raul Fernandez, Fermin Aldeguer and Toprak Razgatlioglu are missing because of injuries. The remaining grid places go to Maverick Viñales, Diogo Moreira, Brad Binder, Jack Miller, Alex Rins, Fabio Quartararo, Iker Lecuona and Augusto Fernandez. The Grand Prix is scheduled for 3:00pm local time, or 7:00am in the United Kingdom.
