Morbidelli to serve Misano long-lap penalty after impeding Bastianini
The VR46 Ducati rider was sanctioned for impeding Enea Bastianini during a fast lap in Practice and has suggested clearer warnings for approaching traffic.

Franco Morbidelli was penalised on Friday at Misano after stewards found that he had impeded Enea Bastianini while Bastianini was on a fast lap during Practice. The VR46 Ducati rider must serve a long-lap penalty in Sunday’s San Marino Grand Prix.
The sanction comes after Morbidelli finished 12th in the Misano sprint. He said the long lap, combined with his usual Grand Prix performance, could make scoring points on Sunday difficult. The stewards’ document also cited multiple offences of this type during the season, without the available evidence specifying further details.
A visibility problem on track
Morbidelli argued that identifying approaching riders can be difficult on a motorcycle. Riders have no mirrors and may need to turn around quickly while travelling at speed, monitoring several factors and avoiding other bikes at the same time.
He said MotoGP should consider clearer warnings about approaching traffic, similar to the information Formula 1 drivers can receive by radio. Among the possible options he mentioned were dashboard messages, radio messages and blue flags. These are proposals, not confirmed measures.
Radio plans remain separate
MotoGP is expected to introduce a radio system at an unspecified point in the future to communicate dangers on track. The available evidence does not establish whether that planned system will warn riders about approaching competitors, so it should not be treated as an answer to the specific problem Morbidelli described.
