Senna Agius will step up from Moto2 to MotoGP in 2027 with Tech3 KTM, where he will be partnered by Luca Marini. Marini sees the timing as particularly favourable for the Australian rookie because MotoGP will adopt Pirelli tyres, while Moto2 riders have already been using the brand since 2024.

Agius is one of several rookies confirmed for the 2027 grid. That gives the incoming riders a different starting point from previous Moto2-to-MotoGP transitions: they will already know the tyre brand and its demands, while the current MotoGP field will be adapting to the change. Marc Marquez has expressed a similar view during the year, arguing that the tyre switch could work in the rookies’ favour.

Marini described Agius as a rider with outstanding potential, strong Moto2 results and very good racecraft. He expects the 2027 newcomers to be capable of running close to the leading riders from the opening race. In Marini’s assessment, the 2027 version of MotoGP could also feel much closer to Moto2 than the current premier-class environment.

Marini does not, however, expect to gain a personal advantage from Agius’s Pirelli background. He believes the central challenge will be learning how the tyres behave and managing them effectively, with a significant mental element involved. Moto2 experience may provide a useful head start, but it does not guarantee immediate success in MotoGP.
