Jorge Martin attempts Sepang return despite wrist fracture
Aprilia has confirmed Martin will try to race in Malaysia, but Thursday’s fitness assessment will determine whether he can take part.

Aprilia has confirmed that Jorge Martin has travelled to Sepang in an attempt to race the Malaysian Grand Prix. The 2024 world champion is recovering from a fractured wrist suffered in a crash during the Australian Grand Prix sprint, where he was battling Marc Marquez for the victory. Martin withdrew from Sunday’s race, which was ultimately cancelled because of poor weather.
His place on the Malaysian grid remains undecided. Martin must pass a fitness assessment on Thursday, while his condition will be evaluated from day to day. He said he is receiving the treatment required to reach Sepang in the best possible shape, but stressed that no prediction can be made before his condition is assessed.
The timing is significant for the championship. Marquez moved 10 points clear of Martin after the Australian sprint, giving the title fight an immediate extra layer of uncertainty. Sepang is also an awkward destination for Martin since he joined Aprilia.
A difficult Malaysian record
Martin suffered a heavy crash at the Sepang pre-season test before the 2025 campaign, during an injury period that restricted him to only seven grands prix that year. He then missed the 2025 Malaysian Grand Prix because of injury and was absent from the 2026 pre-season test while continuing his recovery from surgery performed in December.
Aprilia also endured a subdued weekend at Sepang in 2025, despite winning three of the final four grands prix of that season. Its best result in Malaysia was Ai Ogura’s 10th place, while Marco Bezzecchi finished 11th. Martin’s immediate target is therefore the Thursday assessment; only after that step will it become clear whether he can take part in the race.
