Bezzecchi tops Mandalika warm-up as title fight tightens
Marco Bezzecchi beat Raul Fernandez with a final-lap push, while Jorge Martin crashed before the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Marco Bezzecchi set the fastest time in the warm-up for the 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika, with Raul Fernandez finishing second. Fernandez remained competitive despite a fractured finger suffered in his Turn 1 clash with Bezzecchi during the Sprint, while his right hand was visibly causing him difficulty.
Fernandez stayed at the front until Bezzecchi’s final lap moved the Aprilia rider into first place. The other factory Aprilia had a much more difficult finish to the session: Jorge Martin crashed late and ended up in the gravel trap.
Marc Marquez had held the quickest time before the late improvement from the Aprilia riders. His Sprint victory gave him a four-point advantage over Martin heading into the Grand Prix. Martin would retake the championship lead with a win in the Indonesian race.
Tyres, Espargaro’s withdrawal and the championship
Every rider ran a soft front tyre and a medium rear in the warm-up, the combination predicted for the Grand Prix. Aleix Espargaro, HRC’s stand-in rider, has withdrawn from the race after suffering physically during the Sprint.
The Sprint left Aprilia with just one RS-GP on the podium: Ai Ogura finished second between Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Sunday will also be a significant test for Marquez, who has never completed a Sunday race at Mandalika.
The circuit’s official records remain Fermin Aldeguer’s 1m 30.499s best lap and Bezzecchi’s 1m 28.832s fastest race lap. Both records were set in 2025.
