Aprilia ended Jorge Martin’s participation in the afternoon MotoGP session at Sepang after his injured right wrist continued to limit his ability to manage the forces of the motorcycle. Martin had been medically cleared to ride in the Malaysian Grand Prix on Thursday, only days after fracturing the wrist in a crash during the Australian Grand Prix Sprint. He had been ruled out of Sunday’s race at Phillip Island, which was later cancelled because of poor weather.

The Aprilia rider completed 12 laps in Friday’s opening session and placed 20th, 1.8 seconds off the fastest time. Doctors cleared him to continue after FP1, but he completed only three laps in the afternoon before stopping. Aprilia team manager Paolo Bonora said Martin was struggling to manage the bike’s force when pushing for a lap time. The team therefore decided, together with the doctors and Dr. Charte, that continuing would create an unnecessary risk.

Martin became concerned at Turn 12, abandoned his lap and returned to the pits. Bonora made clear that the incident itself did not trigger the withdrawal; the decision followed the medical assessment. Martin’s participation for the rest of the Sepang weekend has not been confirmed. If he returns, he will have to go through Q1 on Saturday morning. The expected change in weather could influence that decision, since wet conditions may be less physically demanding for his wrist. Martin is 10 points behind Marc Marquez in the championship, while Marquez was fastest in both Friday sessions.
