Aldeguer heads for surgery after Mandalika crash
The Gresini Ducati rider fractured his right hand and will undergo surgery in Barcelona.

Fermin Aldeguer’s Mandalika Grand Prix ended at Turn 16 after a crash left him with a fracture to his right hand. The Gresini Ducati rider had climbed from sixth to fourth during the opening lap, but could not continue. Aldeguer won last year’s Mandalika race, making the early exit particularly costly for the defending winner.
Gresini Ducati announced that the fracture is at the base of the first metacarpal and requires surgery. Aldeguer will fly back to Barcelona for the operation. The Turn 16 crash was his fourth accident of the Mandalika race weekend; unlike the earlier incidents, this one left him injured and ended his grand prix.
Another major setback in 2026
The hand injury is Aldeguer’s third significant injury of the year. A fractured femur ruled him out of pre-season testing and the opening round in Thailand. Later, a vertebra fracture at Assen kept him out for three races. He has also recently had surgery to remove some of the metalwork from his left leg.
Aldeguer was tenth in the world championship standings and now has one race weekend without competition before the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. His future is expected to continue with VR46 Ducati.
